Today: CT Step 43 - My responsibility is to
Knowledge.
My responsibility is to Knowledge. CT Step 43 |
One of the things that limits and hinders people is
their sense of obligation to others. Discerning what this obligation means and
if it is appropriate represents a challenge, particularly at the outset. In the
beginning of studenthood, one of the formidable challenges that almost everyone
faces is questioning their allegiances to other people and the agreements that
they have made in order to see if these allegiances and agreements are really
true and represent Knowledge. Here there can be challenges at the outset, for
the fear of guilt and repudiation can be very great. And the student of
Knowledge does not yet have the self-trust to know that their deeper inclinations
are true and that they should follow them. As a result, there can be much
wavering and confusion and going back and forth over things that in reality are
very clear and obvious.
Therefore, today take this opportunity to make sure
that your obligations to other people—-the agreements that you have made, the
commitments that you have made, and the assumptions that attend them—-are
accurate and appropriate. To your children, you owe a natural devotion and
until they are self-sufficient, you owe a commitment of your time and energy.
This is obvious. But to other members of your family, the situation can be much
cloudier and more difficult to discern.
Therefore, beyond your practice in stillness and
your hourly practice in awareness and discernment, consider today any obligations
that you feel you have to your friends, your family, or to anyone else who
might come to mind. Take time to contemplate this and ask yourself, "Is
this allegiance appropriate for me?" The answer is either "yes
"or "no." Ask the question and become still so that you may hear
the answer.
Practice 43: One
30-minute stillness practice.
Contemplation practice.
Hourly practice.

Step 42 – REVIEW
Points from note cards
36 –
Nasi Novare Coram For the
Unseen Ones … They will come to you if you call them sincerely. … for
your protection
37 –
… remind yourself that you are not alone today, that your Spiritual Family goes
with you, and that there are others in the world who are working in tandem with
you, many of whom you will meet in the course of your lifetime if you are able
to proceed in your preparation.
38 –
I wish to strengthen freedom in others. You cannot convince other people to be
free, but you can demonstrate freedom to them and provide a contrast to them
that is memorable and that they can recognize and understand.
39 –
Let me understand my relationships today.
• Do I have purpose
with this person?
• Is our relationship
being expressed appropriately?
• Are we sharing the
same destiny?
40 –
Who I am with will determine what I will be able to do.
• Is this person strong enough to help
me move forward?
41 –
The greatest evidence of a person’s self-understanding is the nature and the
quality of the relationships that they establish around themselves. … Be very
clear, then, about whom you associate with.

Review
From the journal:
12:21
a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2001 – A review day. The Steps of the last week,
Thursday & Friday in particular, have been hard to do. I've not hit
hourlies. The watch goes off? But my body doesn't feel it. Friday was
productive to a point. After Cindy got home…pizza, wine, TV, failing to fix my
ink jet printer…loss of focus – taken away by the world.
Now
the weekend … and my mission – get focused and get something out there.
7:10
a.m. Review – spirit pushes me forward.
9:03
a.m. Though I'd like to see N.B. Belle & Bev & Chuck J… and the other
unknown enemies – get theirs – I'm far stronger as a survivor – Rasputin – who
unburdened, moves forward. Yes there is the urge for revenge – and anger very
deep – but it detracts from my goal.
→ Steve – he has
that administrative – managerial – uh – change subject, move on and ignore,
positivism. He also wishes to be fair and therefore continues to be exploited
by Marie.
I am
learning so much about community and its roots in the Islamic Jihad of bin
Laden against the West.
9:20
a.m. Time to download the thoughts of the a.m. To this point
→ Reviewing and
evaluating my trajectory, I see now that "time" is my most important
commodity – for RI – it is more important than money. I have what I need –
defining RC/RI as my "futurist" practice is helpful for focus. I need
time to write, publish, speak. – Offering myself as a speaker I need graphics –
I
need to stay here because the NSV is the prototype regional community.
Technology is important – a vertical learning curve. Users demand a new
integration. Hackers are not bad – ACLU is a hacker organization – all
institutions must be continuously tested. There is no and state for intelligent
life. It successes can be moderated by spirituality, relationship, community.
The
technology age is like the carboniferous age – it flourishes – and it may die,
leaving few survivors? The climate changes –
As
we go through rapid change, the failure of partial solutions, which are steps –
causes us to say "oops" often – "never mind" – and more
trash goes to the landfill – like my Epson 670 printer.
→ We are into
"oops" zone – people are hurt and will be dying –
Alignment
– strength in structures comes from alignment, alignment leads to strength.
11:06
p.m. Late in the day. 4 Pillars check. Last week the focus was on
"order" which I followed. Making progress, overconfident, happy – it
is all becoming more clear, more focused. I have fewer needs and am moving to
take care of the neglected ones. The level of focus showed tonight in Barnes
& Noble. I scanned the store broadly, but saw nothing I was interested in
reading. No music either. Food – better, but still overdoing; and exercise –
not enough. I'm really joyful for the first time.
On
many of my small needs – garage door, car painting, – and the need is past due,
so action is obvious. In other relationships, action is not so obvious – like
David & Jamie & the kids/Sarah and Susan.
1
Relationships – Yes, Peace not ridicule.

Review,
review, review; pillars, pillars, pillars; progress? Yes; so we continue.

Note: If you’ve some interest, but this is the
first time you’ve seen Steps, you should go to the beginning blog post. From here you will learn about Steps to Knowledge
and can begin it on the day that makes sense; then progress as needed. Begin at
the beginning.
If you do know about Steps, but have not done Steps
twice completely, read the related materials, and have a sense of the direction
of this study, you won’t get the experience. The Introduction begins:
“This is the Steps
to Knowledge Continuation Training. It is designed to build upon the Steps
that were learned in Steps to Knowledge to
enable you to experience the grace, the power and the direction of Knowledge in
your life and to become an expression of Knowledge in everything that you do.
If you have completed the book, Steps to
Knowledge, twice through and have followed the instructions as they were
given without altering the curriculum in any way, then you are now ready to
begin this more advanced study”.
If you are an independent student, that is
certainly an option. Posts here provide a trail that may let you have a virtual
companion when and if you want one. One may have to study alone, as I did in
the beginning. There are other Steps students blogging their experience and you
might find a person more like you as a companion, or use a number of such Steps
journeys. There are options as well through the Free School of the New Message.
