The Greater Community is in the world. I must be attentive. CT Step 62

Beyond the normal range of your personal concerns and interests is the presence of the Greater Community in the world. Whether you have had a direct encounter or not, you can discern this presence over time. It is a very distinct change in the Mental Environment and can affect the physical environment as well.

Be attentive today. Listen beyond the range of your sight and your hearing. Ask yourself, "How can I discern the presence of Greater Community forces in the world?" Ask this question at many different intervals today and listen. You might hear a word. You might see a sign. Something may be shown to you. The answer can come in many different ways. The important thing is you are asking the question and listening. If you receive something, ask yourself, "Is this true?" Be patient in finding the true answer. Most people are not patient enough to do this, and that is why their answers are so wrong.

Practice stillness in your meditation and practice awareness and discernment upon the hour. Utilize your mind and your body as receptive instruments today, as instruments of discernment, for this is part of their function.

7:35 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2001 –

Reflecting on my UU church talk – of which there are 10 ways to go –

– The miracle of the commons – is that exploitation can be/is experienced and action is taken.

– Think globally, Act locally – "But what is local?

– Neighborhood            | how do we organize –

– Town

– City

– County

                                          | – leap – county to state

– State                             |  Delegates/Senators – geography

– Nation

– Continent

– Planet

region – What is the region?

Old mapmakers were able to give us a relatively accurate view of the world, but few people got to explore it. The world has changed. It is our technology which gave humans this greater ability to roam, to trade, to war – transportation and communications technology built civilizations – raise the minimums – organized for efficiency. Simple steps over time led to a layered being which, in total, appears complex, but at every step was evolutionarily simple.

The miracle of the commons is how we define the commons. Think globally, act locally defined the planet as the commons. We are working to correct errors which eat at the core of the "planetary commons". – The second half – "act locally" raise the issue – what geography is “local" – is it the neighborhood.

Trying to understand the elements of Greater Community on earth; getting people to understand beyond their local boundaries. We continue.
