Today: Step 27 - I have a Wisdom that I wish to discover. (MP3)
I have a Wisdom that I wish to discover. Step 27 |
THIS AFFIRMATION
REPRESENTS YOUR TRUE WILL. If you are not feeling this, it means that you are
entertaining something that is false and without true foundation in your being.
If you have ever felt that the truth betrayed you, then you have not recognized
its value. Perhaps it disappointed your plans and goals. Perhaps you lost
something you really wanted. Perhaps it prevented you from seeking something
that was desirable. But in all cases it has saved you from pain and misery.
Until your true function has been recognized, you cannot appreciate how the
truth has served you, for until your function is discovered, you will attempt
to claim and justify other functions. If these other functions are discouraged
or denied by the truth, there can be great confusion and conflict. Yet,
remember that the truth has always saved you from a greater error that you
would have committed otherwise.
PEOPLE CANNOT
EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE because they are preoccupied with thoughts and judgments.
These thoughts and judgments create a self-enclosed world for an individual, a self-enclosed
world where they cannot see out. They can only see the content of their
thoughts and this colors their experience of life entirely, so much so that
they cannot see life at all.
THEREFORE, IN
YOUR TWO 30-MINUTE PRACTICE PERIODS, look and see how the truth has served you.
Look at experiences that were happy. Look at experiences that were painful.
Particularly in painful experiences, look at how the truth has served you. Look
openly. Do not defend a former position if you are tempted to do so. If pain
still exists from a loss of an earlier time, accept that pain and its
discouragement, but try to look and see how you were truly served by that loss.
THIS POINT OF
VIEW OF BEING SERVED by your experience is something you must cultivate. It
does not justify the experience itself. Understand this. It merely gives you an
opportunity to use your experience for your advancement and your empowerment.
Truth operates in the world of illusions to help those who are responding to
truth in their lives. You are responding to truth or you would not be
undertaking this program of development. Thus, you have arrived at the juncture
where it seems that the truth competes with other things and is, therefore,
very hard to recognize. In this program of development, the truth will be
distinguished from everything else in such a way that you can experience it
directly and will not be confused about its appearance or its beneficial
existence in your life. For the truth is here to serve you as you are here to
serve the truth.
PRACTICE 27: Two
30-minute practice periods.
This Step begins
strongly: "THIS AFFIRMATION REPRESENTS YOUR TRUE WILL." Stick with
it.

26 - My errors give birth to my Knowledge.
September
14, 2000
8:05
a.m. ERROR – In relationships – my primary errors have been in expecting people
to change – that I might have them be what I needed instead of what they are.
People can and do change – when they learn from their own errors. Toleration of
error in others on a wish that they might change – expecting too much out of a
relationship, and giving too much appear to be my error area. I've taken many
risks on behalf of PDC's – and created many benefits that are not visible at
their source to the folks. So – I'm out. It was an error to expect support,
though I don't feel it was an error to try.
10:05 p.m. Step 26 #2 My errors give birth to my
Knowledge.
What have been the most painful errors of my life?
Failure to call E--- before marrying M.E./Marrying
M.E.
Error in lifting soda cases too high – Age 17
Failure to divorce M.E. Before kids.
Failure to return David
Failure to stop marriage two.
Failure to recognize PDC burnout.
Failure to go for telecom degree.
Failure to learn about alcohol early.
Failure to fire M---.
Failure to manage my doing too much.
First
exercise I wrote in generalities, second in specifics. You may have done the
same. Writing makes it easier to deal with/confront.
While
none of these errors ended my life, and in fact did cause me to move on and
grow, getting rid of the burden of these errors has taken time. This is one
point of recognition in Steps. There will be others. Being as honest as you can
is important. Writing them down helps deal with them, as opposed to just
keeping them in your head.
Though not a word in any of the Steps, a word that
does appear in the text and represents a goal, is “gratitude.” That along with
joy is explained in the message “Joy
and Gratitude,” which you can add to your studies.

Note: If you’ve some interest due to this or other
Steps, you should go to the beginning blog post. From here you will learn about Steps to Knowledge
and can begin it on the day that makes sense; then progress as needed. You can
use the posts on this blog as a companion if it helps. They will remain in
order in the archives - one post per Step.
Often it takes 18 months to get through the Steps
once. For this blog, the pace is one-a-day, but it really makes no difference
how fast you do it, only that you begin, persist and repeat. Posts here provide
a trail that may let you have a virtual companion when and if you want one. One
may have to study alone, as I did in the beginning. There are other Steps
students blogging their experience and you might find a person more like you as
a companion, or use a number of such Steps journeys. There are options as well
through the Free School of the New Message.
